Is it possible to pull a flexor tendon in your hand from pulling up a heavy object? Was pulling up a cinderblock while digging out the ruptured sewage pipe and felt a harsh "pop!" in my ring finger's base knuckle and in my wrist. Felt like it came out of socket. A few hours later, my wrist is only a little stiff, but my fingers all ache quite badly and are a little stiff as well. Still have full range of motion, though.
Most of the pain is focused on the underside of the first part of the ring finger, more on the side closest to my middle finger.

I tore a tendon in my right ring finger a couple years ago. During volleyball season I went up for a block, and turned my hand over just a little too much. Got it stoved by a ball, hard. It hurt. Next day, it wouldn't straighten up. Last knuckle wouldn't extend, so the end stayed bent over. After dealing with it for a while, I went to the doctor's. First opinion told me surgery, which I didn't want because it would put me out for that season. Second opinion told me splint it for 6 weeks, and I could still play. I just had to tape it good and leave the splint alone. The only effect of it now is that the finger still doesn't bend like the other when I make a fist.

It definitely sounds like you tore something... I've done multiple pullies, a couple flexors, and the one that holds the middle two bones in your hand together (I can't remember the name). Keep it iced whenever possible, take a couple ibuprofen (Motrin) every meal, and rest it if you can. After about 3 days replace the ice with alternating ice/heat and continue the rest and ibuprofen for a total of about 2 weeks. It sucks but it's the best way to try to let it heal on its own, I rock climb so I'm entirely too familiar with hand injuries...
